Hi all,
My guess for this one would be a male Ophyra sp ; Is it reasonable ? There were plenty of them sunning themselves in my garden.

Thanks

More likely Hebecnema (Muscidae).

Thanks Stephane. I was indeed puzzled about the color of the wings...
Are there many species in our area ? Every time someone quotes a species, it seems to be vespertina . Just another case of people copying on each others or is it the commonest species ?

There is 5 species of Hebecnema in Belgium :
H. fumosa
H. nigra
H. nigricolor
H. umbratica
H. vespertina

H. vespertina, and H. umbratica are the more frequent in our area I think.
If I'm not wrong with the genus (I could be), your fly is not H. vespertina, which has brown parafascialia. Should rather be H. umbratica. The eyes should be hairy.

Stephane.
