Dear all, I found this specimen in a collection from Hungary. It is surely a Clytiomya, however, I'm not sure about its further identification. C. sola can be excluded, because it has yellow/white setae on katepisternum. The key by Cerretti leads to C. sola/C. mesnili. Based on face and vertex width it is most likely C. mesnili male. However, the information I found on internet is very scarce, and I'm not sure about this ID. I couldn't find any available full text pdf of the original description: Kugler, J. 1968. Tachinidae of Israel. III. Description of six new species. Israel Journal of Entomology 3: 59-68 Could you please help me about this ID? Or could anybody send me the full text of this article? Best Regards, Nimród Varga |

The Israel Journal of Entomology archives are at http://ij-entomol...e/19661970 (1966-1970) and http://ij-entomol...e/19711975 (1971-1975), with author’s last name only given so search for “Kugler”. |

Thank you. Unfortunately, I have already searched in the same website and archives, and with a few other articles, Kugler 1968 is not uploaded. Do you may have any other sources? |

I am sorry, but I don't see the white hairs. This looks like a straightforward C. continua male to me. Theo |

Thank you Theo. There are no white setae, and thus I already excluded C. sola. According to Cerretti, both C. continua and C. mesnili have solely black setae on katepisternum (or brown), and only width of vertex would separate them. He mentions 0,26-0,30 vr/occh for mesnili and 0,66-0,84 for continua. Based on his images and these numbers, it shares the characters with C. mesnili mostly. What do you think? You are totally correct. I confused mesnili with dupuisi in my memory. Now that is solved, indeed, this is totally mesnili based on narrow vertex. A very nice find indeed, though already recorded for Croatie and Germany. Apparently first for Hungary ? Theo |
