Chalcosyrphus femoratus (Linnaeus, 1758)
= C. curvipes(Loew,1854)
Chalcosyrphus valgus (Gmelin, 1790)
= C. femoratus auct. nec. Linnaeus, 1758
How to understand :
auct. nec.?

auct. nec. = name was used for wrong species by several authors.
In this case I guess Loew erroneously though Linnaeus'
femoratus was identical with
valgus and thus he described
curvipes as a new species. Other authors followed Loew's intepretation, until someone checked the types and realised that the name
femoratus Linnaeus was used for the wrong species.
