Found at Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçu (REGUA), in Cachoeiras de Macacu municipality in state of Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil on 1.XII.2019. Teneral individual.

Asilidae, teneral female (?). This one puzzles me -- can't even determine subfamily from photos!

Unfortunately, this was the only one I saw. I returned to same area several times and scoured but no luck finding others. Next time!

Looks like a male Aspidopyga cophuroides to me. Compare with https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/8895833.

Chris, Jeff -- Chris is absolutely correct on his 25-03 ID of these 3 photos as a male
Aspidopyga cophuroides. Although the characteristic "double meso-tibial spur" of this monotypic genus is not shown in your photos, the likewise diagnostic epandrium is (nice lateral views photos 1 & 3). Cheers, Eric
