The attatched was taken in East Sussex, England and by means of a key I identified it as a ' Megamerinidae '
I believe we only have one species of this family in England, that being, ' Megamerina dolium ' and that it is scarce.
I have found descriptions of the fly and it does seem to fit but have been unable to find an image of one to compare with my photos.
Can anyone assist me.
Many thanks

You were right to dubt the identification. This is the sciomyzid
Sepedon spinipes. I have noticed before that in some keys to the families of Diptera the
Sepedon species will run to Megamerinidae. The fact that the antennae are somewhat elongate is enough to rule
Megamerina out, as that species has the normal short acalyptrate antennae.
