Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Chloromyia formosa f = antennae missing during collection

I have very little experience with Stratiomyidae.
seems to be 8mm. I've added some microscopic photos (terminalia, haltere, hairy eyes)

Finally, the third antennal segments seem to be missing.
Is it possible that a soldier fly can drop them like a grasshopper with its legs?
otherwise, I have no idea why they are missing. Any ideas?

Some flies lose terminal antenna segments when collected.

Very interesting. Thank You John!

Imagine if I needed this segment for identification (like a chalcid).
I would be freaking out right now :)
