I found this Asilidae in the little village of Salbertrand in Susa Valley, Piedmont (Italy) at 1000 mt above sea level, on June 25th. It was long 2,5 cm about. Could it be a Machimus?

Machimus is right, in my opinion (should see a female too) There is a group of black legged species with taxonomic problems : )) so this will remain an sp.

Great thanks! CAn I ask you what are the species that belong to this "black-legged" group?

M. caliginosus, M. cyanopus, M. setibarbus and maybe a species that has to be reinstated M. intermedius. There is quite some taxonomic confusion about the species within this group. Theodor (1976) showed some of the problems.
