Geotagging a digital photograph is the equivalent of adding location details to a specimen label.
It's fairly easy to do, I outlined methods in the latest Dipterists Forum Bulletin (

Using just Google Earth and any image management application (the one that came with your camera perhaps) this information can be added to your pictures retrospectively, no need for expensive gadgets.
Diptera.info is an important repository of species-occurrence data that is used in research, those precise location details are fundamental.
