Hi again,

A second robberfly image, taken last September in woodland near downland, came to a light trap - thought it could be Machimus atricapillus? About 10-13 mm long.

Any help appreciated!

Please add a locality and use the colour correction function for the image. Tolmerus atricapillus can be identified by checking the last sternite, which must be elongated and bifid. This character isn't visible on this image. In addition it seems to be that the femora are reddish at tips. In T. atricapillus, they must be reddish dorso-ventrally. Yours
