I photographed this Tachinid fly today in the dunes of Holland (Amsterdamse Waterleiding Duinen). They (at least three) mostly flew quite slowly close to ground level, landing near plant shoots, and walking through grassy vegetation. At first I though about
Tachina fera, but its coloration doesn't match. It is of similar size, though. Vegetation is very dry, with lots of lichens is open spots, gras and shrubs is more grown plots. Nearby are water channels.

Cor, well observed !
This is Peleteria rubescens, Tachina's cousin.
You can see the strong bristles on the parafacialia ('wangen'), which Tachina doesn't have.
