This is a Bibio, you can just make out the long apical spines on the fore tibiae. No clue about Nearctic species, though.

Thanks everyone, nigripilus is a North American species and seems likely to be in New Brunswick

You might want to get it checked then. I know the nigripilus is known from Canada, but I've no idea how widespread. But I have to admit to not knowing the Canadian/USA species well.
