This syrphidae is about 1 cm in length and I have no idea where to classify it.
Location: Germany, Rhineland-Palatinum, 53572 Unkel, river Rhine valley, dry and warm habitat (grapeyards), at night on light, 20. 03. 2014.
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Hello Michael,
The haired eyes give it away as Syrphus torvus. Certainly the spring specimens can be quite dark, like this one.
Greetings,
Ectemnius
