Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Very difficult! Taiwan species!

Hello!

Last year, at October, I taked two robberfly photos at Taroko National Park, at east Taiwan. With local insect guides I only can tell that would be in genus Promachus. The two flies are at few meters the one of the other, and it looks similar but with a very big difference in size. Are at a river canyon, in a brigde. I think that the small one would be the male of the same species of the giant one.

This is the small, about 3 cm long.

This is the giant, the size of Asilus barbarus, 6-7 cm.

I suppose that is almost impossible identify it, but try it is free...
