The photo was taken in Bras?lia, capital of the Brazil , in October 2006, near residential neibourghood, during the afternoon. The fly was above a leaf. The fly is about 7 mm.
I have no idea what it might be.

A species of the Stratiomyidae, subfamily Sarginae. Reminds me of Ptecticus but I do not know if that genus occurs in South America.

I saw a photo of a soldier fly -Ptecticus- in this site and , in fact, you are sure - is a ptecticus specie.
