Hi,
When I was preparing this thread I found Dennis's (http://www.dipter...d_id=56040) concerning nearly the same subject. So let us continue.
There is rich life in the rain barrel in the garden of my parents-in-law in southern Brandenburg. Among others, mosquito larvae and pupae can be seen in large numbers. First I regarded them different taxa (I had never seen quickly swimming and diving pupae before!), but thanks to the forum I found out that they are but different stages in ontogeny. We have some mosquito genera in our region, Culex and Culiseta perhaps being the commonest. Do these larvae and pupae belong to the same genus, and can we get closer to a species name? I checked the siphons and reckon to see several hairs, but this detail is not clearly depicted...
Thanks in advance, Sundew
