How do you know it is a Chironomus?

Size, colour, posture. Still, I said 'Most likely'. I am by no means 100% certain.

The other day I made a photo of a Chironomid midge, a large species and a male. I also collected the specimen. I tried to key it out and I could hardly get beyond Chironomini. From that point minute characteristics of the male genitals are needed to proceed in the key, for which probably my stereomicroscope is not fine enough.
