Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Limoniidae species ?

Hello
Isn't it a Limonidae species, perhaps Eloeophila maculata (Meigen, 1804) with black spot on the fly. Find two larva under the bark of a beech in 02/2007, breeding in my house, born the 15/03/2007.

That is the larva of this limonids.

please see if the 5th segment of the palp is more longer than the other segments. If so, it is Tipulidae almost sure. If not, it could be a Limoniidae.
Other feature, Limoniidae has NO nasus in rostrum.... tipulidae can have or not. ;) If you find nasus in rostrum, Tipulidae! If not, I think just with above feature...
nasus is a prolongment of the rostrum with a shape like the anterior and upper part of a shark...

the antenna seems to have less than 13 segments. If so, Tipulidae! Limoniidae has between 14-16 segments, usually, I think. ;)

I hope you have the specimen.... or photos of the head with more detail.
Fix me if I'm getting wrong.
