13 March 2007, New Brunswick, Canada. Still very wintery here, lots of snow. Today it reached 9 C and this fly was active.

I think Muscidae, Coenisinae.

My guess is Lispocephala sp. But it would need some expert for North American Coenosiinae.

Caricea = Lispocephala. Traditionally this genus is called
Lispocephala in the old world,
Caricea in the new world. I don't know if this issue has been resolved yet.

Thanks everyone. 11 spp. listed in Nearctica.com under
Caricea. Haven't been able to narrow down the species occurring in New Brunswick.
Close-up of abdomen that may help an idetification in the future.
I guess not, although there is a window to add an attachment Diptera.Info will not accept an image:(
