Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Ctenophora sp.

Hello.
Somebody knows this Ctenophora?. Perhaps, ornata? Sorry, is the only photo that I have.

Ancares, Galicia (NW Spain), 16/07/2005, 1000 m, Quercetum petraeae. It came to the light (250 W)

This fly looks like Ctenophora ornata except 1) there are distinct subapical dark band on femur of hind legs 2) the 8th sternite is not enlarged. Compare this image to the Ctenophora ornata in the Diptera Gallery taken by Frank Koehler, one can see the differences as mentioned above. In North America, the flies in the genus Ctenophora are highly polymorphism and if this was also the case expressed in the European species, then the fly in this image is mostly close to Ctenophora ornata.
