I appreciate that most of the expertise on this site is Palearctic but am hoping someone can get this to Family and perhaps genus, if not species.
southern New Brunswick, Canada, 21 August 1980. Small, abdomen length 3.5 mm.

I think it's a Tachinid - something like
Gymnosoma.

Thanks Susan, was I ever way off. Always thought of Tachinids as flies with stout bristles. Seems to be just one sp. in NB,
G.canadense. Possibility that it may be
Gymnodytia dubia or
Gymnodytia occidua as these 2 spp. occur here and were originally placed in
Gymnosoma.

Perhaps Theo or Chris would kindly submit a definition of sub-scutellum, with a cross reference to post-scutellum (which I think is a synonym), and a link to this posting to illustrate? Would that work?
