I know, I know, not too many non-diptera threads:o, but I was going through my ichneumon images and suddenly remembered I saw one flying by last october. I tried to follow it but couldn't, so I only saw a short glimpse of it. I'd say roughly about 40 mm. And of course the most important clue: it was blue. And since I've seen a zillion ichneumon images and never a blue one I was wondering, does it really exist? Or did my eyes fool me?

?Yes, that exists but one can put three or four sp., you want to also say that the wings were dark? ?:)

Hi cthirion,
Uhmm, I have to dig deep into my memory, but I'd say dusky wings (transparent but smoky-coloured). It all went very quick. It got away:(
Does the location maybe help? Woodwall between two meadows, clayground, cultivated, east of the Netherlands. App. 10-12 degrees and windy.

Hi cthirion,
Do you have images of those species? I'm curious to see a blue ichneumon the way it is:)

Hello
are you sure it is ichneumon? your description reminds me of our new guest from Mexico. it is very impressing and me too guessed 40mm. Christian Schmid-Egger determined it (in an other picture) as Isodontia mexicana, which is not so long...

Hi dipdip,
Nice one aswell:). But the one I saw had this really long ichneumonoid body which was blue. I don't think the wings were this (pretty) blue, but lighter. Thanks all the same;)
