From midwest Sweden 2006-07-05. I'm not sure wether this "ball" belongs to the spider or not ... Could this be a Araniella sp? The leaf is probably Syringa vulgaris.

I have no distribution maps for Sweden, but here in Germany there are 6 Araniella species, and 5 of them cannot be separated by a photo. A. cucurbitina is the most abundant, but A. opistographa is not much less. So it would bei safest to call this spider Araniella cf. cucurbitina.

Ohh, pity :(

These are found in Sweden:
- Araniella inconspicua
- Araniella alpica
- Araniella cucurbitina
- Araniella displicata
- Araniella opisthographa
- Araniella proxima

The same species as here in Germany :). Only A. displicata can definitely be determined after a photo (also is mainly restricted to coniferous trees (Pinus) in sandy habitats).
