French Ardeche, near secondary raod over pass at 650 m. Small! At Dutch forum Holopogon nigripennis was suggested, with advice to cross check. So confirmation/correction asked for.

In southern France, H. venustus is very common, close to nigripennis. This is one I found most, near the Alps. A picture of a male?

The abdomen seems entirely black....In the key by Seguy that is distinguishing between the 2 species...Is that no longer the case?

Seguy writes for the female "mesonotum one-color, no gray spot on the anterior part".

I will have to agree..:) But somehow using the key by Seguy, I first end up with H. fumipennis. Then reading in other books about tibia 3 that didn't seem right. I used the key again and now i end up with....................H. venustus! Must have misread at a certain point. At 9 I didn't move on to 18 as i should have. Grr
