Hi,

If I follow the key, this should be Platycheirus discimanus as it has 4 sets of yellow spots and we don't have P. groenlandicus. However, there's always a however when I don't know what I'm looking at!

Is it possible to say which species this is? I have two flying pics. 21st May 2010, my garden near Lincoln UK.

Janet :)

It is not P. discimanus!

Looks like P. manicatus

You are right Lukasz! I recognise P. manicatus except when in flight, it is one I had this year. Thanks!

Well Janet, even in these pictures the prolonged face is quite clearly visible ;)

Ye I know Andre, but you know how tricky photos can be! ;) The spots didn't look to be the correct shape from what I saw later in the year, and experience has a lot to do with recognition! I'm getting the experience..B)
