Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Please help a novice! Nowickia ferox?

Hi, I spotted this fly a couple of days ago in Hampshire, UK and after trawling through pages from the gallery the closest I can find is Nowickia ferox. I only got 1 picture as a jogger came past and kicked the scabious it was sitting on...

Yes that looks correct - they are fairly common in the south :) I have seen a few around my area in the Thames Valley. The black legs are very distinctive and split them from Tachina fera.
