Hi
I caught these flies in a pitfall (during 4 days with monoethyleneglycol).
21 August 2006 to 25 August 2006 in Silgueiros - Viseu- PORTUGAL.
I think they belong to the Sciomyzidae family. Is it reasonable to catch these flies in pitfalls? It was the first time I saw these flies.
Genus and if possible specie, please. :)

I refer to the fly that has lateral view. There are slight differences from both flies.

I'd put my money on Heleomyzidae.

Both female
Suillia, I think. The very spinose costa suggests Heleomyzidae immediately, but there are a few other families that also have it.

two females of Suillia laevifrons-group (if the arista is long plumose :).

ok. I have lots of these flies here.
This specie is harmless for crop? I know this fly family is very important for pest control, but there are some genus that are pernicious...
Sorry for blurry images of Suillia. Yes, the arista seems to be plumose.
