I am assuming with those long antennae this can't be a dipteran. What have we got here? ID help would be appreciated.
Length was 3.2 mm. Location West Virginia, USA, open area near woodland. Date 10 July 2006.

Well, it is fly-like because it is a midge, a gall midge to be precise (Cecidomyiidae).

Thanks, Paul, Those long antennae made me doubt this was a Dipteran.
Now that I think of it, I remember other kinds of midges where the antennae were not only somewhat long, but were very feathery on the males.
