Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Dasysyrphus (was Eupeodes?)

Is it possible with genus and perhaps species of this 8-9 mm long fly.
Looking quite lika a Scaeva. I have only this picture.

I'd say Dasysyrphus. Perhaps D. hilaris.

With the hairy eyes I also think it is Dasysyrphus when I look better, but is it hilaris?

It is a Dasysyrphus, but probably not hilaris. The ID should be made with the specimen in hand, or maybe maybe with some extra pictures of this specimen.

Hi Kurt,

this is Dasysyrphus pinastri, because of the oblique spots on tergites 3 and 4 and the strong "dust" band on frons.
