Certainly a tachinid ... but it's frustrating because I can't quite see the face well enough to know if it has a plumose arista :( My guess is it is a dexiine but I can't say for sure - one for Theo I think ;)

Thanks for those - but aren't they the sames as photo #2? I still don't see the face clearly enough to know if the arista is hairy or not :(

Nevermind - tachinids are infuriatingly difficult to identify from photos. :D It doesn't seem to matter how many photos you take - you will always be missing that 1 vital angle showing a part of the fly you thought would be totally insignificant! ;)

Chris is right:
the arista should be plumose, in which case this would be
Dinera ferina, a male
