A syrphid on a flower in a wood, i know it's Volucella pellucens
The photo is taken in NE of France near Metz

Volucella pellucens - unmistakeable very large fly with white belted abdomen and orangey-brown face.

I think it would be possible to mix up
V pellucens and
Leucozona lucorum if you were a beginner.
'Pellucens' means translucent, so this is the 'see-through hoverfly';)
I've had them in unusually high numbers this year, males patrolling at about 2m in groups in the sunny glades of the abandoned garden next door.
