Thread subject: Diptera.info :: ID on a Barkfly (F) Mesopsocus (sp.) so far.

Found in the garden a few days ago...Are they ID'able at this stage? Size...maybe 3mm ish.

My guess would be
Mesopsocus unipunctatus but I'm not a specialist.

Roger - It's worth sending these to Bob Saville (he runs the National Barklfy Recording Scheme). Either
Mesoposcus immunis or
unipunctatus - the females are virtually wingless. Don't know whether either are recorded from Shetland, but I'm sure Bob will be pleased to get any records from you.

Inconclusive response from Bob...looked like
M.immunis going by the colour, but that isn't reliable. Could be either. Need a photo of Genitalia (can be done through glass). So that's the next Project. Catch Barkfly and make it pose on a bit of glass..H.T.F. do you do that???.Speak to it like a dog??..."Heel/SIT". Well it is a BARKfly..:|.

Before Tony responded I already sent an e-mail to Dr. Charles Lienhard (specialist in Psocoptera) to ask him for his opinion.
