May 28, 2006.
Size 4-5mm.
This time I decided to work and found family/genus ID through excessive browsing of flies images at bugguide.net and checking forum posts at diptera.info.

Hi Black

This is indeed Loxocera and it looks like albiseta.
Albiseta is, however, somewhat larger than you have indicated:
7 -10 mm.
Sure about the size ?

I'm positive about the size, Theo,
Got two specimens, the second one even smaller, closer to 4mm (I didn't post its images 'cause one hind tarsus is torn off, alas), and its colours a bit different.

Well, in that case it might be something like sylvatica.
We would need to have a frontal picture of the face to decide

Hello Theo,
I'll check if I have a frontal face picture.

I'd agree with L. sylvatica but a frontal pic would clinch it, I think.

Unfortunately there's only pictures of the smaller specimen. Hope it's the same species.

Maybe a dorsal view of the head would help, too (same bigger specimen that's on the first picture).

That's enough to confirm L. sylvatica. :)
