Hi, found these larvae in decaying wood in a forest, N-E Hungary, mid october.

over en segements, and jointed cerci i'd put it as a LEIODIDAE larvae

Linssen's Beetles of the British Isles shows a few carabid larvae, and Loricera has the prominent tooth on the mandibles and long cerci.

But Andy Chick may be right, though I don't understand the first bit. I've never knowingly seen a leiodid larva.

Many thanks to everybody, never seen a specimen from this family yet. I think Andy Chick meant 'over 10 segments'.

sorry yes i ment "over ten"

Luff states in cooter 1991 "abdomen 10 segmented (including anal tube)"

i cant rememeber where is got Leiodid from (probably one of the archaic jopurnal articles here in the lab!) but another suggestion be Staphylindae,

To my eye, the picture shows ten abdominal segments including the anal tube, which I assume is the pale projection about a third the length of the cerci.
