Hello

Short proboscis, small head and big eyes lead me to Asilidae. Could that be something like Dasypogon?

May 5th 2006, Optevoz (Is?re -FR) in a hedgerow

Thanks
Christophe

Dioctria sp? Maybe a bit thin and waisted (no pun intended) for Dasypogon. Also has rather long antennae.

It seems you're right Susan
Thank you!
Could it be D. rufipes?

Christophe

I am only too pleased to be the one helping instead the one asking the questions for once, but I'll leave it to someone more senior to do the species stuff.

I'm in France this coming weekend, so I hope I see some nice big fierce Asilids.

Bon s?jour en France
