Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Is this bombylius major?

This bee-fly seemed much darker and more banded on the abdomen than the previous bee-flies I've had in the garden which were ID'd as Bombylius major.

Looks like Bombylius major to me :) In my experience you really have to look hard to find any other species of beefly in the UK. Also, with that wing colouration it is very distinctive - of the species with a long proboscis one (discolor) has speckled wings and the others are much smaller with unpatterned wings.
