Size ca. 3mm.
On trunk of Alnus, near a brook, May 11, 2006.

A difficult target, rather timid.

I fiddled around with these flies quite a while this morning. So there's some of the results. They seem to be less fidgety early in the morning. Later I discovered that they visit birch logs lying on the ground, too, and can be found at different places, such as fragments of brickwork at a deserted sawmill; one even came down on my black tripod bag.
