This one was aprox. 10-12 mm large. From Sierra de Cazorla, 1400 masl. 07/09/2008. Under pine forest with sunny slope beside it.

Nowickia has legs all black, so this is Tachina.

Most likely magnicornis

The reds looks very rich - was this the true colour of the fly? :o

I do work the photos a bit with Photoshop, but it was very red. Look at the clear background. This one looks different than other T. magnicornis I have seen. It is redder, especially the antennas and legs. The end of the abdomen is not black. Also the pattern in of the back stripe at the back of the abdomen is more regular in this one. The thorax has a lighter colour and it seems to have feweer hairs???
