Hello!
Rather bigger sized (~10-12mm) fly on oak log in Hungary. I vote for Muscid. Which species is it?

Muscidae. It seems Graphomyia maculata...

Hmm.. In my photos, Graphomyia has very dark (almost black) femur and tibia whereas the legs of this questionable fly seem rather pale red coloured. Moreover, Graphomyia has a very conspicuous black spotted pattern on its abdomen which I can't see on this fly. I am not as experienced as you of course (or I am not experienced at all:o) so I must accept your determination!!;)

I agree with you Tomi, it is Phaoninae, my vote is (Phaonia valida?)
