13 August 2008, NB Canada. Length: 7.2mm

Tachinid is a wild guess but it does seem to have a large subscutellum:(
EDIT: title changed

From art back to science:

It is a Phasiine Tachinid of the genus Gymnoclytia.

Hmm, if I have a pin-up of a tachinid will my girlfriend be jealous ... or just think I am crazy? :P

(Actually she already knows I am crazy so there's not much risk there ;))

It may be OK. Looking at the characteristics of the genus this appears to be a male. Hmnm, maybe not so OK.

Theo: I could send you a print of lateral view, and/or a print of the face. Any size up to about 12x12 inches.

Attaching a dorsal view of abdomen.

Sunnny day forecast after almost 2 weeks of cloud and rain; off to get some tabanids!

:o (cough, cough) ... I am off to watch football, drink beer and hunt bears with just my hands :D

But seriously - that's exquisite ... absolutely amazing clarity - well done :D
