Thread subject: Diptera.info :: Chrysops nigripes

Location: Midwest Sweden (Dalsland)
Date: 2008-JUN-24

A dark male Chrysops sp. Guessing by the name I assume it could be C. nigripes!?

This one is tricky.
First, it is indeed a male Chrysops
Second, the legs are blackish, indeed.
Third, the photo is strongly flashed (right ?)
There seem to be reddish sublateral spots on tergites.
More than in female nigripes. However, it does not agree with divaricatus nor caecutiens.
I don't have the male of nigripes in my collection.
So to me it remains ?nigripes.

Thank you Theo! I found no photo of C. nigripes on the web to compare with. Almost all my photos these days are taken with flash. I also noted the red-brown spot on side of abdomen..
