Hello,

is the family Anthomyiidae correct here? Can perhaps something be said about the genus?

(size about 9mm, photo taken in germany, beginning of june)

It is Anthomyiidae. I would think it is probably Hydrophoria lancifer Harris although I can''t see clearly the diagnostic characters which are: arista plumose, lower squamae rather projecting, legs mainly black but tibiae slightly yellowish or orange, wings brownish (and of course the genitalia). It is a common fly and has appeared in the Forum several times. There is a closely related species called diabata which differs in the male genitalia, this is uncommon. There are about 8 Palaearctiic species.

Thank you for your answer. Hydrophoria would have been my guess too, but unfortunately I am often totally wrong. So I always ask.

I never read the characteristics of the species so clearly. This is very helpful.
