Hello!
I didn't find out, what it could be - not even the family. A little heavier than a Musca domestica, but probably not much longer.
Kanton Bern (at the lake of Thun) Switzerland, 550m asl, 08.04.2006
Thanks for helping Maja Beutler

Hi Maja.
1. I have to warn you that I'm not expert, but "second year student" here. But silence of Experts tell us that in this case I'm not mistaken and it is realy Pollenia sp. So confirm your second photo.
2. Generaly you can ID Pollenia as Calliphorida without metallic shining body and with golden hairs (not seta) on thorax. Usualy Pollenia looks rather like:

But in spring I also met Pollenia species with very poor golden hair like yours.
3. Unfortenely genus level is last level for Pollenia ID by photo. Otherwise you have to examen males genitalia under microscop.
