Thanks for your reply Jan :)
What is the difference between this species and D. repeta and D. mercatorum?

D. repleta has, among others, darkened tip of 1st section of costa, and abdominal tergites with pale spots semilaterally. D. mercatorum, rarely encountered in Europe, does not have this darkening of costa but its abdominal tergites are like those of D. repleta.

There is one success story to be told about D. mercatorum - it has apparently become widespread in the recent years, and is now among the most commonly found Drosophila species indoors, at least this is the situation in Vienna :)

And based on my own encounters, I noticed that mercatorum can have a darkened costal section as well. Apart from the larger pale spots, the general lighter coloration and narrower abdominal bands are characters to separate it from repleta, but there is some overlap (e.g. freshly emerged replata can be quite pale as well)
