Three weeks ago, I was able to photograph this horsefly. Philipomyia aprica seems very likely. But from what I've read, they're said to be found in the high mountains above 2,000 m above sea level. The more southerly native Philipomyia graeca looks somewhat different in my opinion.
Who knows more?
Size: approx. 15 mm (+)
Date found: July 9, 2025
Habitat found: open, sunny forest (hiking) trail on a ridge, herbaceous layer and shrubs, with forest surroundings
Location found: low mountain ridge between Lake Milstätter See and the Drau Valley, approx. 700 m above sea level

Yes, clearly aprica. Not sure about your source, but occurs at this altitude no problem.

Hello Theo,
Thanks for your identification.
I read the English Wikipedia, as there was nothing in the German one. (Maybe a 0 too many? :S )
Best regards
Bernd
