Hi,

I collected in a salt marsh area (Tipulomorpha typical for this habitat) this female Atylotus.

I'd like to make it a A rusticus, but I am bothered with hairs on abdomen, wich are distinctly yellow (with black hairs on bands).
Can we confirm? And can we exclude A fulvus wich appear to be the alternative?

The picture of abdomen doesn't give much this golden hair impression unfortunatly.

best,
Clovis

Hi Clovis, the very small calli of this female would point to A. fulvus.

The abdominal pattern strongly suggests latistriatus, as does the habitat.
Yellow notopleural lobes are very unusual in fulvus (more loewianus) and finally, if you take a close look to the second pic, you'd notice the eye is hairy.

Hence: latistriatus, one of those terrible specimens with yellow leges. (sh)it happens.

Hi you two, many thanks for your help!
A latistriatus was also one I wanted to rule out, but really short hairs on the eyes get me wrong.

Atylotus always get me mad!

best,
