Hi everyone!
This one is much more difficult than the male from last weekend (nearly same place). Antennae colour and shape are not like making me sure, but seem to look a bit more like
Tabanus bovinus than
T. sudeticus.
"At least first segments without pale lateral margin" ventrally for
T. sudeticus (Zeegers/Schulten) let me think it's
T. bovinus. 70% sure. Am I right with that?
Size 23 mm

Hi Rupert, yes - I think you are right with
Tabanus bovinus: the ventral view shows the dark central stripe and laterally pale sternites.

Thanks Eric!
Now I know why it has to be caught for correct ID - no catch, no belly view. :-)

Big dorsal hook on 3rd antennal segment, largely orange-brown base of 3rd segment. I vote T. sudeticus var. perplexus.

Hi Libor!
Thanks for your opinion! The more I look at it, the more I think it's totally as you write. Also the ventral black band fits very good to the description in the book.

I'm still perplexed and not fully convinced... :|

I hope the author of "the book" is going to tell us.
