Hello,

I photographed this fly in the Sorgenti del Fiume Vera Nature Reserve (AQ), Italy, 650m a.s.l. on September 25th 2024. I think it is a Culicidae, but is it possible to identify its genus or species based on these photos?

Thank you in advance,
Emanuele

Hello Emanuele, it's difficult - but I think it's a Culiseta sp. and the only one I've found with my limited knowledge is Culiseta glaphyroptera (dark legs without rings and all dark scales on the palps) which seems to be absent from Italy (though present in France and Croatia)

Interesting, thank you. I'll try to collect some specimens next summer.
