I have received a picture concerning a bad preserved mosquito specimen (September, Poland SE).
Maybe someone can identify the specimen to the species level?
Thank you in advance :-)

Dzień dobry Andrzej!
We cannot see the pattern of the scutum, but the hind leg should be enough to identify the mosquito as
Aedes japonicus ( a female):
tarsomere 1-3 with basal white band
tibia extensively black
femur with a small white ring basally
from Lindström, Eklöf (2022): Stickmyggor i Nordeuropa
Miłego dnia!

Hallo Eric,
das ist eine Überraschung für mich :-) ...
Vielen Dank,
Andrzej
BTW
now I know why I was unable to identify the specimen using the old Polish key to Culicidae of Poland (Skierska, 1977) that I have.
Maybe you could be so kind and and recommend a more up-to-date one?

Cześć Andrzej!
I work with the interactive key "moskeytool" which can be uploaded here:
https://www.medil...moskeytool
They have a website, too, that is very useful:
http://bioinfo-we...V2.1/html/
My favourite is:
Lindström, Eklöf (2022): Stickmyggor i Nordeuropa which is planned to be translated to English and Anders's website
https://www.flick...ugbolaget/ with excellent and very detailled photos.
Aedes japonicus flies in my garden since min. 2015 and is currently my most abundant mosquito.

I agree that
Ae. japonicus seems plausible here. I know that
Ae. japonicus has been found in Poland for the first time last year, and that it is established there now.
I'm working on the english translation of the book as we speak!

I'm in contact with Kacper who made pictures of
Ae.
japonicus in nature. The photos I've received are sufficient for correct identification, and now we are collecting all the Polish records ...
