Hello,
please help at identifying this fly:
Austria, Carinthia, village close to Ferlach, close to a mixed forest, 600m, 14.07.2023, length about 1cm.
Thanks,
Robert

very nice, a Billaea.
Any chance you have a pic from behind, showing the dark oattern on abdomen ?

Well, last pic suggests B. triangulifera.

Hi Theo,
unbelieveable, but when I went back to that place, the fly was there again (at least I think it might have been the same). Maybe some kind of her territory?

So I could take also some pictures from behind. Does this help?
Thanks,
Robert

Yes, that is unbelievable, that is indeed the requested angle and that does NOT look like triangulifera. I need to check the books.

Hi Theo,
since the photos until now were compressed and so lost details, I here zoom in into the requested part of the view first and don't have to compress. So I can here present the most available details that the pictures can give, in case this makes it easier or helps.
