Hello,
an 8-9 mm male yesterday on
Solidago canadensis in our courtyard. Does not seem to be the usual
Eupeodes corollae or
luniger. Maybe
Eupeodes latifasciatus?

If you compare Steven Falk's collection of
Eupeodes species (
https://www.flick...460588728/), you'll see that a banded pattern may occur in some of them. Males are very variable. The best differentiating feature is said to be "second basal wing cell
completely covered with microtrichia" in
E. latifasciatus, 75 % or less in other species. So poor chances for photos...
Best wishes, Sundew
